Eagles – 445-9 declared and 162 all out in 40.4 overs (Tinashe Kamunhukamwe 65, Faraz Akram 38, Kudzai Maunze 10; Tendai Chisoro 6/43, Jalat Khan 2/39, Dom Bess 2/53)

Southern Rocks – 468 and 143-3 in 23.5 overs (Roy Kaia 46, Richmond Mutumbami 34, Eddie Byrom 22; Faraz Akram 1/25, Hamza Sajjad 1/34, Alex Russell 1/42)

Southern Rocks won by seven wickets

Rocks in fact scored at exactly six runs an over in getting the 140 runs they needed to complete that win, having started the day on 30 without loss – Roy Kaia was on 16 and Eddie Byrom 14.

Kaia played his strokes positively from the start and was the first man out with the score on 72, with 44 to his credit.

Two runs later, Byrom went for 22.

Richmond Mutumbami also took the aggressive route, scoring 34 off 28 balls, while Dom Bess played quietly for 14 not out.

Campbell came in with 13 more runs needed and in five balls, including the three successive boundaries, he scored 14 to take his team home with runs and wickets to spare.

In six Logan Cup matches, this is the first time Eagles have had an outright result, and they came out the worse of it, while it is Rocks’ second victory.

Mega Market Mountaineers – 253 and 431-6 declared in 113 overs (PJ Moor 130, Tony Munyonga 118, Wellington Masakadza 53*; Prince Masvaure 3/79, Victor Chirwa 2/165, Tafara Chingwara 1/81)

Rhinos – 219 and 110 all out in 19.5 overs (Ben Curran 29, Nyasha Mayavo 18, Takudzwanashe Kaitano 17; Wellington Masakadza 5/20, Victor Nyauchi 2/23, Donald Tiripano 1/6)

Mega Market Mountaineers won by 355 runs

Wellington Masakadza enjoyed a good all-round match, scoring a fifty and taking a total of nine wickets, as Mega Market Mountaineers cruised to a big 355-run victory over Rhinos in their Logan Cup fixture at Kwekwe Sports Club on Saturday.

Rhinos, set 466 for victory, were 56 for three wickets overnight, but in the morning they completely failed to put up a fight.

Their star batter Antum Naqvi was quickly caught at the wicket off Victor Nyauchi for one, and that may have knocked any remaining stuffing out of the team.

Prince Masvaure, on six overnight, went for 17, Nyasha Mayavo went for 18, and Masakadza took three more wickets to finish with five for 20 in the innings.

Mike Chinouya, in a final and rare gesture of defiance, hit him for a big six over long-on, but two balls later he was caught at slip and the match was over.

Masakadza had match figures of nine wickets for 58 runs, and Mountaineers’ third victory in six matches tightened their grip at the top of the Logan Cup table.
