Rhinos – 166-5 in 20 overs (Antum Naqvi 46, Tarisai Musakanda 46, Ryan Burl 40; Tinotenda Maposa 2/26, Milton Shumba 1/22, Luke Jongwe 1/29)

Tuskers – 116 all out in 19 overs (Clive Madande 39*, Munashe Chimusoro 27, Tinotenda Maposa 10; Maaz Khan 4/17, Trevor Gwandu 2/28, Victor Chirwa 1/9)

Rhinos won by 50 runs

Tarisai Musakanda crafted a disciplined 46 that underpinned Rhinos’ 50-run victory over Tuskers in their Domestic T20 Competition match at Harare Sports Club on Tuesday.

Opening with Ben Curran, Musakanda soon found himself under early pressure as Curran fell for 14 and Brendan Taylor followed for just two, leaving their side 31 for two inside five overs.

Naqvi obliged with a lively 46 off 33 balls as the pair added a crucial 76-run stand, giving Rhinos the momentum they needed.

Ryan Burl then launched a destructive late onslaught, smashing 40 off only 20 deliveries, including two sixes and three fours.

Having absorbed the early strain, Musakanda eventually departed in the 19th over for a gritty 46 off 48 balls.

Rhinos closed on a competitive 166 for five, with Tinotenda Maposa standing out for Tuskers with two for 26 from four overs.

Tuskers did not have an easy task, and they never looked likely to accomplish it.

They could not put together a partnership worth as many as 20, and only two batters scored more than 10 as they slumped to 116 all out in 19 overs.

Opener Munashe Chimusoro did his best, making 27 off 24 deliveries, while Clive Madande again played well to score 39 not out off 33, but their support was most inadequate.

Maaz Khan ripped through the lower order to claim superb figures of four for 17.

Southern Rocks – 126-4 in 17 overs (Innocent Kaia 64*, Johnathan Campbell 20, Roy Kaia 14; Ali Hasnain 2/19, Kundai Matigimu 1/33)

Eagles – 132-6 in 17 overs (Tinashe Kamunhukamwe 40, Wessly Madhevere 23*, Tony Munyonga 19; Ali Asfand 2/18, Arineshto Vezha 2/31, Newman Nyamhuri 1/24)

Southern Rocks won by two runs (DLS method)

A sparkling innings from Innocent Kaia and a decisive spell of left-arm spin from Ali Asfand carried Southern Rocks to a tense two-run (DLS) victory over Eagles in the afternoon encounter.

Sent in to bat, Rocks lost both openers – Cephas Zhuwao for three and Tafadzwa Tsiga for 13 – with only 27 on the board.

Kaia then took charge, first combining with his captain and cousin Roy Kaia (14), and later with Johnathan Campbell (20), to rebuild steadily.

His fluent strokeplay took him to a fine unbeaten 64 off just 46 balls, decorated with two sixes and four fours, before rain halted play at 126 for four after 17 overs.

With conditions preventing a resumption, Rocks’ innings was closed and Eagles were handed a revised DLS target of 135 from 17 overs.

Eagles began aggressively, reaching 26 in the fourth over, but Tadiwanashe Marumani fell for 12 – caught by Kaia off Asfand.

Tinashe Kamunhukamwe fought valiantly, hitting some fine shots, but could not find a partner to stay with him for long.

When he was fifth out, for 40 off 37 balls, the score was 92 and 43 runs were needed off 23 balls.

Wessly Madhevere and Tony Munyonga launched a desperate counterattack, with Munyonga blasting 19 off 12 before falling immediately after a big six.

That left Eagles needing 15 off the final over.

Jalat Khan held his nerve brilliantly, conceding only six runs from the first five balls.

Madhevere hammered the last delivery for six to finish on 23 off 10, but the blow came too late – Eagles ending three runs short of their adjusted target.

Asfand’s tight, composed spell proved decisive – his four overs cost just 18 runs and included the key wickets of Marumani and Dion Myers.
