Some fine bowling by Brad Evans of Rhinos rattled the Eagles batting line-up in their Logan Cup match at Kwekwe on Sunday, helping to dismiss them for just 157.

By the close of play, Rhinos were well-placed to take a first-innings lead, reaching 126 for two.

Eagles struggled with the bat, slumping to 78 for six, with four wickets falling to Evans.

Dion Myers was the only batter to show some resistance in the top order, scoring 29.

The team’s highest scorer was debutant all-rounder Kundai Matigimu, who made a solid 35.

Evans finished with impressive figures of four for 34, while Ryan Burl cleaned up the tail, taking three wickets for just nine runs.

At the close, Antum Naqvi was unbeaten on 19 alongside Masvaure as Rhinos closed in on a first-innings advantage.

Day 1 – Stumps

Matthew Campbell anchored the Southern Rocks innings with an unbeaten 42 against Mountaineers at Takashinga Cricket Club, guiding his team to 83 for three on another rain-affected day.

After being sent in to bat, Rocks stumbled early, losing their first two wickets for just nine runs, including Innocent Kaia, who fell to the first delivery.

Roy Kaia provided brief resistance with 12 before departing, but by the close of play, Ryan Higgins (26 not out) had settled in well alongside Campbell, steadying the innings.
