Antum Naqvi confirmed his return to his best batting form with a remarkable unbeaten innings of 250 not out for Rhinos against Tuskers at Takashinga Cricket Club on Thursday.
The day began with his team on 47 for one wicket after Tuskers had been dismissed for 128 – Ben Curran had 18 and Tarisai Musakanda 20.
Musakanda reached 48 before being dismissed at 84 for two, which brought Naqvi to the wicket.
He proceeded to dominate the rest of the day with his brilliant strokeplay and complete dominance of the bowlers.
Curran also took the opportunity to regain his form with a very determined innings of 124, which took him 283 balls, but was of great value for his team.
His partnership with Naqvi for the third wicket added 264 to the total and ended with the score on 348 for three.
Remembrance Nyathi came in next, finishing the day with 13 off 71 balls.
Naqvi’s 250 has so far taken him 259 balls, with eight sixes and 28 fours, and given Rhinos a lead of 333 with seven wickets still in hand.
Mega Market Mountaineers – 237 and 236-2 in 37 overs (Kevin Kasuza 101, Dion Myers 65*, Timycen Maruma 50*; Hamza Sajjad 1/18, Alex Russell 1/76)
Eagles – 336 all out in 82 overs (Tadiwanashe Marumani 78, Alex Falao 52, Chamu Chibhabha 51; Tendai Chatara 4/95, Definate Mawadzi 2/26, Donald Tiripano 2/35)
Day 2 – Stumps: Mega Market Mountaineers lead by 137 runs
A brilliant century from Kevin Kasuza made light of Mega Market Mountaineers’ 99-run deficit on the first innings to Eagles on the second day of their Logan Cup match at Old Hararians Sports Club on Thursday.
Eagles began the day on 116 for four wickets, having dismissed Mountaineers the first time for 237, but had six wickets down for 157.
Tadiwanashe Marumani was the man who did most to turn this around, scoring 78 off 118 balls, and sharing partnerships of 80 with Romario Roach (31) and 68 with Alex Falao (52).
This eventually led to the final total of 336.
Tendai Chatara was the best of the bowlers, taking four wickets, all from the top five batters, for 95 runs.
Kasuza came out blazing when Mountaineers began their second innings.
Definate Mawadzi was soon out for 13, but Kasuza with Dion Myers as his partner tore the bowling to shreds, being particularly severe on the spin of Alex Russell who had caused so much trouble on the first day.
Russell had him stumped in the end, but not until he had made 101 off only 76 balls, with five sixes and 14 fours.
He was replaced by Timycen Maruma, who also played the hitting game, and added another 86 with Myers before the close without being separated.
The day finished with Myers on 65 and Maruma 50, with the score 236 for two wickets – Mountaineers are looking strong with a lead now of 137 runs and eight wickets still in hand.
