Mountaineers – 166 all out in 39.5 overs (Timycen Maruma 60, Wellington Masakadza 43, Tinashe Chiorah 20; Faraz Akram 4/27, Kundai Matigimu 2/11, Marshal Takodza 1/0)

Eagles – 167-5 in 32.4 overs (Kudzai Maunze 60*, Craig Ervine 34, Tinashe Kamunhukamwe 21; Tendai Chatara 2/21, Wellington Masakadza 1/28, Michael Frost 1/38)

Eagles won by five wickets

Faraz Akram with the ball and Kudzai Maunze with the bat were well to the fore at Harare Sports Club on Wednesday, steering Eagles to a commanding five-wicket victory over Mountaineers in their Pro50 Championship clash – and with more than 17 overs to spare.

Opener Tinashe Chiorah made 20 but was the third wicket to fall with the score on 27, each of the three scalps claimed by a different bowler.

Timycen Maruma then began the rebuild, and with captain Wellington Masakadza joining him at 46 for four in the 11th over, the pair dragged their side into a promising position.

They added 99 for the fifth wicket in 21 overs before Wessly Madhevere struck, bowling Masakadza for a steady 43 off 60 balls.

At 150, however, the innings unravelled.

Maruma departed for a well-crafted 60 off 85 balls, caught off Marshal Takodza, and Akram tore through the middle and lower order, removing three batters in successive overs.

The last six wickets crumbled for just 21 runs, leaving Mountaineers all out for 166 with 10 overs unused.

Akram returned outstanding figures of four for 27 from nine overs.

Eagles were left needing 167 – a target that briefly looked trickier than expected when Tinashe Kamunhukamwe became the third wicket to fall for 21, leaving the scoreboard reading 43 for three.

But Craig Ervine’s arrival steadied nerves.

Ervine and Maunze comfortably negotiated the Mountaineers attack, putting on 85 for the fourth wicket in just 15 overs to tilt the match decisively in Eagles’ favour.

Ervine made 34 off 43 balls before falling to Masakadza at 128, while Madhevere followed for 14 soon after.

Maunze, however, held firm.

He finished unbeaten on 60 from 70 balls, guiding Eagles home with valuable support from Tony Munyonga, who chipped in with an unbeaten 14 as the hosts cruised to victory.
