Mountaineers – 217 and 372 all out in 93.3 overs (Definate Mawadzi 171, Timycen Maruma 49, Alistair Frost 33; Alex Russell 6/141, Wessly Madhevere 2/30, Tinashe Kamunhukamwe 1/2)
Eagles – 69 and 191-5 in 52 overs (Emmanuel Bawa 75, Wessly Madhevere 46, Tony Munyonga 16*; Tendai Chatara 3/31, Wellington Masakadza 1/14, Vincent Masekesa 1/40)
Eagles face a daunting challenge as they head into the fourth and final day of their Logan Cup clash against Mountaineers at Harare Sports Club needing 330 runs with only five wickets in hand.
They ended the third day on Wednesday at 191 for five, with Tony Munyonga (16 not out) and Ryan Kamwemba (14 not out) holding the fort and keeping their slim hopes of a positive outcome alive.
Mountaineers had resumed their second innings earlier in the day at 363 for nine, an imposing lead of 511 runs, with Definate Mawadzi unbeaten on 162.
Another nine runs were added, all to Mawadzi, before he was finally caught brilliantly by Emmanuel Bawa at backward point off the bowling of Alex Russell.
The total was 372, Mawadzi had scored 171 off 228 balls, hitting four sixes and 16 fours, and Eagles were set an almost impossible 521 runs to win in just under two days.
They were soon deep in trouble, as an excellent opening spell from Tendai Chatara had them reeling at 33 for three wickets.
At this point, however, Bawa and Wessly Madhevere effected a fine recovery, adding 121 for the fourth wicket before Bawa was dismissed for 75, scored off 107 balls with a six and 12 fours.
Madhevere followed in the next over without addition to the score, caught by Chatara off Wellington Masakadza for 46, with five fours, off 90 deliveries.
Munyonga and Kamwemba then tried to steady the innings, but rain came to end play at 191 for five wickets.
Meanwhile, no play was possible at Takashinga Cricket Club in the match between Tuskers and Southern Rocks initially due to a wet outfield before rain came again in the afternoon.
