Eagles – 353-8 declared in 95 overs (Tinashe Kamunhukamwe 175, Faraz Akram 52, Kudzai Maunze 50; Tendai Chatara 3/70, Vincent Masekesa 2/105, Definate Mawadzi 1/37)

Eagles won by an innings and 60 runs

Three wickets in a single over from left-arm spinner Ali Hasnain brought the Logan Cup clash at Harare Sports Club to an abrupt end on Sunday, as Eagles wrapped up an emphatic innings-and-60-run victory over Mountaineers.

Eagles began the morning on 334 for seven wickets in their first innings, in response to Mountaineers’ score of 113 all out.

Alex Falao contributed a dogged 13 not out off 64 balls, while Tanaka Chivanga hit 10 not out off four deliveries.

Mountaineers went in a second time with a deficit of 240.

Having carried his bat in the first dig, Alistair Frost produced another notable effort – this time for its unusual nature – occupying the crease for 38 minutes and 18 balls before being bowled by Mohammad Kashif without scoring, with the total on 25.

For a while, Mountaineers appeared to steady themselves.

Joylord Gumbie struck 46 and Nick Welch added 35, taking the side to 111 for two.

Later contributions from Matthew Welch (38) and Timycen Maruma (32) suggested resilience, but none managed to convert their starts into the substantial innings Mountaineers desperately needed.

At 180 for six, the collapse arrived with dramatic suddenness.

Hasnain removed Maruma with the first ball of a new over, caught behind by Ryan Kamwemba.

Four deliveries later, Shafiqullah Ullah followed in identical fashion.

The over’s final ball produced Kamwemba’s third catch, this time to dismiss Victor Nyauchi, leaving Mountaineers in ruins.

The captain, Tendai Chatara, was unfit to bat, and so the match ended at this point in a decisive victory for Eagles.

Hasnain’s figures were five wickets for 48 runs off 17 overs, while Kashif and Falao took two wickets apiece.
