Southern Rocks – 285 all out in 82.3 overs (Dom Bess 63, Tafadzwa Tsiga 53, William Mashinge 35; Brandon James 4/39, Mamoon Riaz 2/48, Mgcini Dube 2/62)
Tuskers – 0-0 in 0.5 overs (Nkosana Mpofu 0*, Tanu Makoni 0*)
Day 2 – Stumps
After a rain-ruined first day, Rocks resumed at 36 for one wicket after a rather late start this morning due to the damp conditions.
Alistair Frost, 10 overnight, was soon dismissed for 13, but Bess, who resumed on 12, played a good positive innings to reach 63 off 86 balls, with 12 fours, before he was caught off Brandon James, who in his previous over had removed Johnathan Campbell for 32.
Rocks were at this stage 147 for five, but Tsiga now came to the fore with his innings of 53 and put on 84 for the sixth wicket with the more cautious William Mashinge, who soon followed him back to the pavilion for 35.
There was some resistance from the tail, with Cuthbert Musoko making a steady 21, while Priviledge Chesa hit a quick 15 not out.
James finished off the innings at 285 by removing Musoko and the last man, Jalat Khan, with successive balls, so as to be on a possible hat-trick in the second innings.
His figures for the innings were a very useful four wickets for 39 runs.
Only five balls were bowled in Tuskers’ first innings, without a run scored, before bad light ended play for the day.
Eagles – 55-6 in 20.1 overs (Nick Welch 15, Tadiwanashe Marumani 14, Romario Roach 11*; Muhammad Adil 4/19, Carl Mumba 2/12)
Rhinos –
Day 2 – Stumps
Muhammad Adil and Carl Mumba of Rhinos gave the Eagles batters a hard time in the brief session of play that was possible in their Logan Cup match at Takashinga Cricket Club on Thursday.
After so much heavy rain on the first day, the ground did not dry quickly and play was only possible after tea.
Eagles perhaps wished it had not been possible at all, as 17 for two wickets overnight became 55 for six by the time play was called off due to bad light.
The opening batter Larvet Masunda, who scored a dogged two not out overnight, did not add to his score before Adil penetrated his defences and bowled him out with the score on 19.
Mumba then dismissed Wessly Madhevere for four and Chamu Chibhabha for two, and five wickets were down for 31.
Tadiwanashe Marumani played his usual attacking game to hit 14 off 15 balls, but Adil then trapped him lbw to make it 41 for six.
Romario Roach, from Barbados, was unbeaten with 11 and Tapiwa Mufudza had four when play ended prematurely, with only 20.1 overs having been bowled so far after two days.
Adil at present has bowled nine overs and taken four wickets for 19 runs.
